At 15 years old, Joey faced adversity that forced him to grow up quickly. A few years later, he arrived at Marshall University as a walk-on football player with something to prove.
Through discipline, commitment, and determination, Joey earned a scholarship and became a starter for the Thundering Herd. The lessons he learned on the football field continue to guide him today in education, onstage, and in life.

Despite his own struggles as a student, Joey went on to earn a master’s degree in School Counseling and a post-master’s certificate in Educational Leadership Studies.
For more than 15 years, he has served as a school counselor—mentoring young people, listening to their stories, and helping them believe in their potential. Those experiences continue to fuel his mission to connect, encourage, and empower every audience he meets.

In 2024, a life-changing stroke reshaped how Joey viewed time, gratitude, and purpose. Today, his message is more personal than ever: life may not always go according to plan, but we still get to decide what we do with the time in front of us.
